The Get Fit Foundation (GEFF), the National Governing Body established to reverse obesity trends and encourage Britons to lead more active lives is launching a new walking campaign. According to the GEFF, walking could extend our lives by up to fifteen years and as such it is encouraging people to engage in activities such as walking to work. The campaign will be represented by marathon runner Rory Coleman who, according to the BBC, has run in over 480 marathons and broken nine Guinness World Records for endurance running. On January 5th and 6th, Mr Coleman walked the 711 miles from Newquay to Newcastle on a treadmill aboard an articulated lorry. The event marked the UK's Biggest Ever Walking Marathon. Coleman advocates that "Walking for 30 minutes a day five days a week will really change your life". This statement is reiterated by the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Fiona Adshead who asserts that "Walking is a great way to get more exercise as part of daily life and it's easy for people to make a small change to their daily routine by walking that little bit further every day".
