This reader is a suitable supplement to most managerial economics texts, and provides a selection of articles illustrating the concepts and techniques of managerial economics that textbooks only introduce. The book includes both descriptive and analytical articles focusing on the economic environment in which managers of firms operate and the application of empirical techniques. Each article discusses a concept or technique useful to a manager. Special effort was made to select articles that show applications in a variety of industries and markets. It also features articles on housing, cable television, professional baseball and nursing home industries. The increasing importance of international issues to the manager and to managerial economics is reflected in the many articles with an international focus. Finally, some articles focus on public sector issues reflecting the pervasive role of government in a mixed economy, and use of the tools of managerial economics by public sector managers.
