The last thirty years have witnessed a fundamental shift away from real property mortgages towards personal property security interests (in particular, security interests over intangibles such as bank deposits, book debts, bonds, and shares) as the preferred means of securing the repayment of debts or the performance of obligations. This book provides a comprehensive survey of the legislative regimes regulating security interests over personal property in the United Kingdom andthe major common law jurisdictions of Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The economically important common law jurisdictions of Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore will also be considered.
