Each author entry begins with a biographical sketch, followed by a list of the writer's major works, and then a large number of critical excerpts on the playwright and his/her major plays. Statements from the dramatist and excerpts from published interviews are included when possible. About 50 illustrations are contained in each volume. Among the authors covered in volume one are Sophocles, Marlowe, Sheridan, Gogol, James Baldwin, Karel Capek, Lillian Hellman, and Arthur Miller.Each print volume in this long-standing series profiles approximately 4-8 dramatists by providing full-text or excerpted criticism taken from books, magazines, literary reviews, newspapers and scholarly journals.
