UMTS Networks and Beyond

UMTS Networks and Beyond 3G will be an advanced textbook on UMTS networks and the mobile communications networks that will come after UMTS. Unlike other books, this textbook emphasizes the networking aspects, rather than concentrating on radio technology or services. The book is structured in two main parts: The first provides a detailed technical discussion of UMTS, covering usage scenarios, architecture, protocol stacks, control functions, and offering worked examples and a view of the network evolution to date.  Part two provides an up-to-date view on the future after UMTS, discussing usage scenarios, technical approaches in different regions of the world, and ongoing standardization work and research. The reader will be left with a sound technical understanding of what UMTS does, how it works, how it is likely to evolve, and how it fits into the bigger picture.
