Thanks to its highly condensed form it greatly aids search and selection of individuals listed in PAB and PAB-S. Furthermore, as a work in its own right, the Index presents a highly valuable tool for biographical research: information given by the Index leads to an immediate identification of the person in question as well as his/her historical classification. The Polish Biographical Index allows its user direct access to the biographical source, both the original work in printed form and the microfiches of the Polish Biographical Archive and the Supplement.
