This is a companion to the Victoria and Albert Museum's collection of medieval art. The book is also an introduction to the subject. The selected masterpieces illustrate the development of the arts in the middle ages, from 400 to 1450. The book draws on examples of work in every medium, from ivory carving to wrought metalwork, including the Gloucester Candlestick, embroidery, tapestry, stained glass and illuminated books of devotion.
