Within the framework of the seemingly homogeneous architecture of Vorarlberg that achieved international recognition during the 1990s, the buildings of Helmut Dietrich and Much Untertrifaller attracted notice. The reasons for this attention were that Dietrich and Untertrifaller's buildings: possess a subtle architectonic and urban quality; show no preference for any particular building material; and relate to their urban and natural surroundings. Meticulous conception and a sensitive feeling for material are the hallmarks of their interior design. The buildings are presented in this book by photographs, plans and text. Specific themes are treated separately in the form of detailed comparative analyses, and an introductory essay puts the work of Dietrich and Untertrifaller into a supraregional and temporal context.
