The second volume of the International Yearbook of German Idealism is dedicated to the concept of the state. Kant´s theory of freedom and his theory of the constitutional state set new standards for the political philosophy of modernity. They became the foundations for theoretical thinking about the state in the epoch of classical German philosophy after Kant, and they are still present in the discussions of our times. Written by leading scholars in Germany, France, and the United States, the twelve chapters of this book explore the theoretical basis of the new theories of the state in German Idealism.
