Gillian Gloyer studied ancient languages at Wadham College, Oxford. After university and a couple of years back in Scotland, she began a professional career overseas, working in Spain, Chile, Belgium and Bosnia before finding herself, slightly by accident, in Albania. From 1998 to 2002, she directed a long-term training programme with young political activists from 12 parties. She lived in Tirana from 1998 to 2002, and travelled extensively around the country. She is now based in Edinburgh, but visits Albania at least once a year, for both work and pleasure. Since 2012, she has led tour-groups to Albania and other countries for UK-based tour operators.
