Three Colours Trilogy

Remarkable for its memorable imagery, narrative and complexity and for the performances of Juliette Binoche, Julie Delpy and Irene Jacob, Kieslowski's "Three Colours" trilogy is widely recognized as a major triumph of European cinema. An intimate and personal interpretation of the French Revolution ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity, two of the three films gained major awards. This is an appreciative and personal account of the trilogy. Geoff Andrew communicates the power and arresting imagery of the films and demonstrates how the director's art is brought to bear in their moving renditions of the inner lives of its characters. The author also traces cinematic links between the films and describes how Kieslowski's early Polish film-making history culminated in these Swiss-Polish co-productions.
