Opis

Problem-orientated Clinical Microbiology and Infection is a well-established and widely used medical textbook. It is problem-based, in line with current medical teaching, and covers 70 clinical cases. The book takes the student through a case of infection starting with presentation, to laboratory diagnosis and treatment. It covers all the information that medical students need to know on the clinical aspects of microbiology and infection including epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical diagnosis, management; the special topics of the diagnostic laboratory, vaccination and antimicrobial agents are presented separately. The accessible writing style is complemented by numerous good quality photographs, illustrations, and boxes to highlight key information or to address relevant related areas. This second edition has been updated to include new material on AIDS/HIV, emerging antibiotic-resistant bacteria and new viral pathogens such as SARS. Included in the text is additional clinical information, to complete the reader's comprehension and knowledge base, as well as self-assessment material at the end of each section. The book also contains appendices that cover the sensible use of the laboratory, commonly used anti-infective agents and the current UK immunisation schedule
