This third edition has evolved from the previous two editions, expanding upon and re-working them to provide a more logical and thorough approach. Examples include the updated chapter on the mobile radio channel and the cellular principle, and the revised chapter on services, which now includes the high-speed circuit switched data service (HSCSD) and enhanced data rates for GSM revolution (EDGE), as well as updates in the area of multimedia messaging (MMS) and other services now available (voicebox etc.). The change in title (Architecture replaces Switching) reflects the new emphasis on the architectural aspect of GSM networking. The authors draw on their extensive experience in the field to provide a thorough overview of the existing status and future potential GSM. This is a welcome addition at a time when competing titles focus on specific topics within GSM such as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and EDGE - but fail to provide a broad overview, or at least one pitched at this level.Â
