The 6th European Conference on Applied Superconductivity (EUCAS) washeld in Sorrento (Napoli), Italy, from September 14 to 18, 2003. Thisimportant biennial event followed previous successful meetings held inGĂśttingen, Edinburgh, Eindhoven, Sitges (Barcelona) and Copenhagen.According to its tradition, the EUCAS Conference focused on the rĂ´le ofsuperconductivity in bridging various aspects of research with a variety ofconcrete advanced applications. The wide interactions among scientistsoperating worldwide in the field of superconductivity and the sharing of theirknowledge and experience represented the main result of the event. TheEUCAS Conference has been an ideal forum for presentation and discussionof recent developments in the field of applied superconductivity in the areaof power and electronic applications. Great emphasis has been given tomaterials research directly connected to such applications. For this conference, 515 plenary, invited and contributed papers wereaccepted, covering different areas of applications which can strongly benefitfrom the use of superconductivity, such as energy transportation, largemagnet systems, biomedical instrumentation, digital electronics, wirelesscommunications, and quantum computing.42 plenary and invited papers are included in this printed volume, and at theback of the book is a CD-ROM which contains PDF files of all the contributedpapers linked from contents lists (and, for completeness, plenary and invitedpapers). These proceedings are addressed to physicists, electrotechnical andelectronic engineers, material scientists and chemists worldwide interestedin the most recent and exciting advances in the field of applied superconductivity.
