Up and coming cookery writer Alexandra Barbour needs to escape. She needs to get away from the distractions of London and the pestering attentions of her ex-boyfriend. With a deadline fast approaching, she feels the peace and quiet of the Worcestershire countryside will be vital ingredients in her recipe for success. After leaving the hustle and bustle of the city behind her, Alex rents a charming cottage in the grounds of a large manor house. However, she soon discovers that life in the country is not quite what she was expecting. The cottage doesn’t have the modern conveniences she is used to in London and it’s a long way to the shops. To make matters worse, she received a rather frosty welcome from the Lord of the Manor. But Alex is determined not to be put off and she quickly buries herself in her work.

Despite her best effort, it’s not long before Alex’s curiosity gets the better of her and she quickly becomes intrigued by the Lord of the Manor’s background. As the two grow closer, could it be that Alex has made a friend in the most unlikely of people? Will she stay on track and finish her book in time? Or is the sun about to set on her countryside adventure?
