Maria V. Snyder urodziła się i wychowała w Filadelfii w stanie Pensylwania. Ukończyła studia z dziedziny meteorologii, jednak praca w zawodzie nie przynosiła jej satysfakcji. Dlatego w 1995 roku zajęła się pisaniem. Tworzenie świata fantasy, gdzie samemu ma się wpływ na pogodę, to o wiele większa przyjemność – twierdzi autorka. Na początku Snyder pisywała jedynie do gazet i magazynów, by z czasem skupić się na powieściach. Pierwszą książkę – „Siłę trucizny” napisała w 2005 roku, a rok później otrzymała za nią nagrodę Compton Crook przyznawaną za najlepszy debiut powieściowy. Snyder w wolnych chwilach uprawia sport, ma brązowy pas w karate, gra na wiolonczeli i dużo podróżuje.
