Kathleen Becker

Born in 1970 in Germany to German-Irish parents, and with a degree in English and French, Kathleen Becker has been living in Lisbon since 2006, for the most part in the city's multicultural and newly hip neighbourhood of Mouraria. With a dozen years spent in the UK, Kathleen has worked for radio and magazines and as a translator, and written literary and travel guides, including one to off-the-beaten-track sights of her adopted home town. Passionate about cultural history, nature and gastronomy, Kathleen leads group tours in São Tomé & Príncipe for German and UK operators (she is the author of Bradt’s São Tomé & Príncipe guide), along the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland, across the Azores, in the still largely undiscovered Alentejo region of Portugal, as well as offering tailor-made guided walks around Lisbon (contact [email protected]). She has also worked on guides to the Camino de Santiago and Oporto, Portugal's second city. Her (scant) free time is spent devouring books, foraging and freeganing, relaxing with a spot of yoga, and enjoying busman's holidays gourmet hiking trail such as the Tour de Mont Blanc (TMB).
