Dr. Adkinson was born in North Carolina and received his undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where he was a Morehead Scholar. After Johns Hopkins Medical School and an Osler Residency in Internal Medicine here, he spent two years for post-doctoral research in immunology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. Afterward, Dr. Adkinson returned to Johns Hopkins to pursue an academic career in the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology where he is currently Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of the Training Program. He is also Program Director for the Graduate Training Programs in Clinical Investigation. He has published over 300 scientific articles and reviews, and is currently Managing Editor of the premier comprehensive textbook of allergic diseases: Middleton’s Allergy: Principles and Practice. In 2010 he was recognized with the Distinguished Clinician Award of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
