Acknowledged as one of the country's leading development experts, Ann Bernstein is one of the most thoughtful writers today on development and the role of business in promoting it. She was educated at the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of California, and is the founding director of the Centre for Development and Enterprise (CDE) - one of South Africa's leading policy think tanks. Bernstein regularly addresses conferences and other meetings in SA and abroad, and contributes to journals and newspapers on a wide range of national issues. She has published extensively on business, democracy, development and policy-making. She has been a Visiting Lecturer at Wits University and subsequently a Visiting Professor at the University of Cape Town.
